Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco

 

Required Documents: For commercial quantities, import licenses are required PRIOR to shipping, and shipper has to be registered by the Ministry of Health.

Customs Regulations: Normal duties and taxes will be charged.

Clearance: 3 to 4 days. Customer’s presence is not required for clearance, but he must be in the country.

Remarks: No problem for smaller and personal quantities in household goods shipments.

 

 

Diplomatic Removals

 

Required Documents:

  1. Inventory in Spanish
  2. Original of AWB or OBL
  3. Diplomatic Entry Form, to be requested from Foreign Ministry by diplomatic mission. Embassy or mission must endorse Exemption & AWB/OBL to customs broker/destination agent for clearance.

Customs Regulations: Pays no duties/taxes, provided the Diplomatic Entry Form is provided.

Clearance: 2 days minimum. Customer’s presence is not required for clearance, but he must be in the country.

Remarks: With the Diplomatic Entry Form, no problem or customs charges. Personal firearms are allowed, but a carrying permit must be obtained. Vehicles have to be shipped separately.

Demurrage or handling charges from Customs will be invoiced at delivery.

 

 

Firearms and Weapons

 

Required Documents: Strictly prohibited.

Customs Regulations: Only the Ministry of Defense is allowed to import weapons.

Remarks: Sporting weapons are permitted in non-commercial quantities, usually limited to one set per family member.

Household Goods and Personal Effects

 

Required Documents:

  1. Inventory in Spanish
  2. Original of AWB or OBL
  3. The original passport with a valid visa for at least one year

Customs Regulations: Duties/taxes on CIF value of the HHG’s have to be paid. Only one shipment from one origin for each family is allowed.

Clearance: 3 to 4 days. Customer’s presence is not required for clearance, but he must be in the country.

Remarks: Colombians must have lived abroad for at least 2 years continuously, and must obtain a certificate of the Colombia Embassy to that effect. Shipment can arrive 30 days before, up to about 120 days after, the customer’s entry into the country. Only one unit of each type of electric appliance is allowed.

New Furniture

 

Customs Regulations: They can only enter as household goods for personal use only.

Clearance: 3 to 4 days. Customer’s presence is not required for clearance, but he must be in the country.

Remarks: Shipment will be cleared as household goods

 

 

Pets and Animals

 

Required Documents:

  1. Import license, if more than two animals
  2. Vaccination certificates Additional for dogs and cats: Notarized Health Certificate from a vet. Vaccination of rabies, distemper, hepatitis, parpovirosis.

Customs Regulations:

 

Clearance: Customer’s presence is not required for clearance, but he must be in the country.

Vehicles

 

Required Documents: For Diplomats only:

  1. Registration by Foreign Ministry
  2. Title
  3. Most recent registration
  4. Copy of the bill of sale

Customs Regulations: Since 1/1/94, no used automobiles may be imported into Colombia by non-diplomats.

Clearance: Up to 5 days. Customer’s presence is not required for clearance, but he must be in the country.

Remarks: Shipper needs to fulfill all documentation requirements before dispatch of vehicle.
