Are You Considering Moving Overseas?

I Always Wanted to Live Abroad. What about You? I knew that I always wanted to live abroad. Following a safari to Kenya in 1989 I was hooked on adventure. What I did not realize was that I would begin to crave new experiences and international travel. This became patently clear after a stint working in Latin America in 1992. By the time I returned to my home state of New Hampshire I recognized that something was very different. Me. I then began asking the question “where to next?” The answers involved travel across the United States. From Miami to Anchorage, Salt Lake to DC. Living in each place was great; however, the burning desire to have an overseas adventure ...

How to Buy Real Estate in Australia

For a significant percentage of people planning a move abroad, their move is designed to be permanent. Rather than a temporary relocation for a short-term employment contract for example, their move is emigration for life… If you fall in to this bracket and you’re emigrating to Australia you may well be planning to buy real estate to make your new home abroad a permanent base. The good news is that Australia’s property buying system is secure, legally well-protected, and foreign citizens who become permanent residents in Australia have the right to own immovable property in Australia. Getting Involved In The Big Expat Experience

“It is so big on the outside but the reality is that it feels very small on the inside.” Said Raj who was describing how he feels after the first nine months of his expatriate assignment in the United States. This prompted the realization that what he was truly experiencing was a very small aspect of his expatriate opportunity. Recognizing that he is in the United States and the ...

Facts About FACTA – Expats and Taxation

The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FACTA) came into law in 2010 and has changed the way that the US focuses on tax reporting for US taxpayers residing, or holding assets, in foreign countries. The US Government claims that hundreds of billions of dollars are lost annually due to unpaid taxes by US taxpayers holding assets in foreign countries. The measure, approved by congress, is intended to recoup some of that money.  FATCA, already set into action and gaining traction around the world, will target non-compliance of tax law by U.S. taxpayers holding foreign accounts. The objective is the reporting of financial assets and the focus is on offshore assets, some types of foreign financial accounts and the compulsion of ...
