An Overview on Belgium

Belgium, a melting pot of languages and cultures, is located in northwest Europe. Belgium has a population of 10 million and the three primary languages spoken there are Dutch, French and German. English is occasionally spoken, but it may be most beneficial to you if you learn one of these three languages prior to moving. When moving to Belgium you should be aware that the currency there is currently the Euro, so your currency will be converted from your current currency to the Euro during immigration or when you open a bank account in Belgium. Ask your international relocation specialist for details on how and where to open your new bank account in Belgium. If you are moving to Belgium from Canada or the US, you will need a visa in order to stay for more than 90 days. Consult the Belgium Consulate in your area for details on the criteria for applying, the process you must undergo and a time frame for acquiring your visa. Your international moving specialist will make sure that once you have your visa, all of your paperwork is in order for your shipment to pass smoothly through customs. If you are planning to bring your pet or pets with you while moving to Belgium, it is also a wise idea to consult your local Belgium Consulate on health requirements, necessary paperwork and quarantine procedures.

Choosing an Overseas Moving Company

NY International Shipping knows that choosing an overseas moving company can be a daunting process. Everyone claims to offer the best services and have the most competitive rates, however, this is not always the case. NY International Shipping has provided some tips on how to compare international shipping companies for your move to Belgium, so that you find the best quality of service and the most reliable company to ship your goods from your current location to your new home.

Rates, Referrals and Reputation

Shop carefully when looking for an international relocation company. NY International Shipping suggests using the apples-to-apples comparison method when comparing overseas moving companies. This method will give you the most accurate side-by-side comparison of all of the companies you are considering. We suggest you start by choosing three or four of the top international relocation companies you have found. Then compare the exact same service for the same volume, start and end destinations and dates. Using this approach, you will be able to see how each company’s rates accurately compares to the others you are consider. Contact NY International Shipping for a quote on shipping your goods for your move to Belgium.

While we understand that staying on budget is important, it is also important to make sure that you are working with a reliable moving company that will carefully and successfully transport your goods while moving to Belgium. NY International Shipping strongly encourages you to ask each international relocation company that you are considering for referrals. Any overseas moving company that successfully services its clients should have a stack of referrals from happy past and repeat customers—individuals, families and corporate companies. Learning from someone else’s experience is a great way to determine whether or not a company is the type of overseas moving company you can trust while moving to Belgium.

NY International Shipping also encourages you to look at the reputation and “big picture” of any international relocation company you may be considering. Check out the company’s website and visit their physical office. Never trust an international moving company that does not have an office you can visit and relocation specialists you can talk to in person. You should also do a little additional research by checking out third-party reviews. There are many great websites that offer customer reviews of companies of all types, rating them on their services and past experiences with them. Make sure that any company you consider is a licensed NVOCC by the FMC as well as licensed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Any reputable international relocation company should be properly insured and bonded, too. You may also want to look at what organizations your overseas moving company is affiliated with or a member of. Look for affiliations/memberships to organizations such as:

Employee Relocation Council/Worldwide ERC®
Foreign Commerce Club of New York
IAM (International Association of Movers)
NY/NJ Foreign Freight Forwarders & Brokers Association Inc.
YP 25 (Young International Movers)
