Household Goods and Personal Effects

Required Documents: Residential status – work permit. Baggage Declaration Form signed in front of a Customs officer. Original OBL/AWB. Detailed inventory. Avoid use of Forwarder’s Bill of Lading or

House Bills.

Customs Regulations: Subject to examination by Customs, Quarantine and Security. First time resident – Duty free entry within a period of 12 months of owner’s arrival. Nature of goods and quantity must be

reasonable as determined by Customs.

Clearance: Customer presence required for clearance? Yes

Remarks: Do not list as ‘Packed by owner.’ If anything that may have been in contact with soil (lawn

mowers, bicycles, golf clubs, gardening tools, etc.), must be clearly marked on inventory and

easily accessible.

Customs Regulations: Personal computers are not generally classed as one’s personal effects and are subject to duty. Any goods intended for trade or business (facsimile machines, etc.) are dutiable.

Vehicles

Customs Regulations: Severe import restrictions. Severe duty rates apply. Steam cleaning required prior to shipment.
